Well. Meh. Chips, salsa and guac were decent. The food was passable. Not awful but not much better than chipotle with an added dollar sign. Server was the bartender and as mentioned she's the most senior one there and the only one most time. She was nice, friendly, and prompt with stuff we asked for. However. . My Margarita (not on special today) was the most awful I've had since I tried to mix tequila with sprite in college.

Wow, very impressed with the authentic Mexican food here! My husband and I just moved to town and have been exploring all of the different Mexican restaurants. I grew up spending a lot of time in the SW and we have traveled all over...so we are picky about our Mexican food! We've tried all the local fancy spots that everyone talks about and we were not impressed (More American-Mexican than authentic). We found Cantina Maya and had a great experience overall: very friendly customer service, all-you-can-eat fresh crunchy chips and home-made salsa, fish tacos were not "too-fishy" like you find at a lot of places and rice and beans were spot on. Husband raved about his burritos as well. Next on the list...carne azada (we've heard the beef is spot-on :) A great place for lunch, dinner, happy hour, weekends and huge TV for sports. We'll be there all the time!

Don't waste your time on this place. It's run down (which typically doesn't bother me since I like hole in the wall spots). They had 1 server and she was the bartender. I asked for a margarita since they were on special 2 for 1 but I didn't even take my second one it was that bad. The only redeeming thing about the place was that the salsa, guac and queso were ok. Just ok.

First off, we used to love this place, and the owner Javier is awesome. We used to go at least three times a month. It's never been busy, so there was always an open table. We went there for Cinco de Mayo, and it was only half full, but we were there for a total of 20 minutes before leaving without even being acknowledged. We decided to give it another shot last weekend on Friday night, and there were nine tables (plus people at the bar) and only one server (also the bartender). We didn't get to order our drinks until sitting there waiting for 15 minutes, then we had to wait another 20 minutes to get our margaritas (which are pre-made in a bucket). We also asked for chips and salsa, and that took forever as well. The owner was apparently at his other job. When we were waiting we decided to watch TV, but of course, the cable was out. After we (finally) got our food, having waited over an hour, the server/bartender was very snarky and snippy when we asked for some napkins. The other thing is they went WAY up in their prices. A piece of chicken with rice and beans is $13, compared to the $7 it used to be. I hate bashing this place because I have been a server in a few restaurants and I know how it is to be busy, but I just want to warn people to clear your whole schedule before going. The only reason I'm giving it two stars is because we like the owner and the food is awesome.

I came to this place because a friend raved about their guacamole. On this point they did not disappoint. It was smooth and flavorful. We sat outside because it was a decent night - and also because it was hotter inside than outside. There is one high top table and one low top. If that was not available I might not have opted to stay due to the inside temps. The food was OK. I had tacos al Pastor, which were flavorful. But the biggest disappointment was the margaritas. They were awful! Tasted like they were made from lighter fluid. I was so disappointed that I stopped at a liquor store on my way home to buy the fixin's for margaritas so I could end the night with a decent version of my favorite drink. I will be less than enthusiastic to return, especially with several other Mexican places at the Beach that have never failed to satisfy on both the food and drink side of things.

Good, authentic food in a casual atmosphere. Nothing fancy but we've always had friendly service and a pleasant experience. Reasonable prices, too. The Guacamole is delicious!

Warm, comfortable atmosphere, friendly staff. Interesting menu choices. Very good food is reasonably priced. Excellent food + large portions (we took half home for another meal) + reasonable prices (two lunches for $14) + excellent service = 5 stars. We will go there again.
